This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes the rules and restrictions that apply to your use of the x12port platform ("Service"). This AUP is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. Violation of this AUP may result in suspension or termination of your account.
1. Scope
This AUP applies to all users of x12port, including Client accounts, Developer accounts, and any third parties who access the Service through an authorized user's account.
2. Permitted Uses
x12port is designed and licensed for use in the following non-pharmaceutical industries and use cases:
- Retail & CPG: Purchase orders (850), invoices (810), advance ship notices (856), inventory inquiry (846)
- Logistics & Transportation: Load tenders (204), freight invoices (210), shipment status (214)
- Manufacturing: Planning schedules (830), production sequences (866), shipping schedules (862)
- Food & Beverage: Order management, shipping coordination, warehouse receiving
- Automotive: Releases (862), shipping schedules, quality notifications (824)
- General B2B: Any standard X12 transaction sets used between commercial trading partners in lawful business-to-business commerce
3. Prohibited Uses
You may NOT use the x12port platform to:
3.1 Healthcare and Regulated Industries
- Process, transmit, or store Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA (45 CFR Parts 160 and 164)
- Submit HIPAA-regulated EDI transactions, including 837 (claims), 835 (remittance), 270/271 (eligibility), 278 (prior auth), or any other healthcare-specific transaction set
- Handle pharmaceutical serialization data or track-and-trace transactions regulated under the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA)
- Process prescription drug transaction sets (e.g., NCPDP SCRIPT, 852, or specialty pharmaceutical transactions)
- Submit data subject to FDA electronic records regulations (21 CFR Part 11) without our express written authorization
3.2 Illegal and Harmful Activity
- Transmit data related to illegal goods, services, or activities under applicable law
- Facilitate fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion, or any activity prohibited by applicable trade law
- Upload or transmit malware, ransomware, spyware, viruses, or any other malicious code
- Conduct or facilitate denial-of-service attacks or unauthorized penetration testing against our systems or third-party systems
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts, trading partner data, or our internal systems
3.3 Service Integrity
- Circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or access controls
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the Service
- Scrape, crawl, or index the Service using automated means without our written consent
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise make the Service available to third parties as a standalone product without a written reseller agreement
- Use the Service to develop a competing product or service
3.4 Data and Privacy
- Upload personally identifiable information (PII) beyond what is reasonably necessary for EDI operations
- Store consumer financial data (credit card numbers, bank account details) except where encrypted and compliant with PCI DSS
- Collect or process personal data in violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or other applicable privacy law
4. Developer-Specific Rules
Developer accounts have access to expanded capabilities including the Visual Mapping GUI and API integration tools. In addition to the above, Developer users agree to:
- Use the platform only to serve legitimate business clients, not to conduct surveillance or extract data for unauthorized purposes
- Ensure that any mappings, integrations, or configurations they build comply with this AUP when deployed for client use
- Not share their developer link code (dev code) publicly or in a manner likely to attract bad actors
- Promptly report any suspected security vulnerabilities to us at security@x12port.com
5. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of any use of x12port that violates this AUP, please report it to us at abuse@x12port.com. We investigate all credible reports and take appropriate action.
6. Enforcement
We reserve the right to investigate any suspected violation of this AUP. Confirmed violations may result in:
- A warning and an opportunity to cure the violation
- Temporary suspension of your account
- Permanent termination of your account without refund
- Referral to law enforcement or regulatory authorities where required by law
We are not obligated to provide notice before taking action if we believe the violation poses an immediate risk to the Service or other users.
